Timberland was founded by Nathan Swartz in 1952, Abington, Massachusetts. It is an American manufacturer and retailer of outdoor fashion wear. Timberland mainly focuses on footwear. Apart from footwear, Timberland also sells apparels. Timberland has its corporate headquarters at Stratham, New Hampshire. The company also operates from other parts of the world.

Timberland’s history:
Nathan Swartz, in the year 1918 began his shoe-making career as an apprentice stitcher. In 1952, He bought half an interest in The Abington Shoe Company, by doing contract work for other manufactures. By 1955, he bought the remaining interest and also bought his sons into the company. In 1960, Swartz introduced the injection-molding technology into the footwear industry. This innovation lead to the production of virtually waterproof boots. In 1969, they moved their base from Abington to New Hampshire. In 1973, Timberland was introduced as a brand name producing waterproof leather boots. The waterproof boots became very popular, therefore the company name was officially changed to The Timberland Company. In 1978 and 1979, casual and boat shoes were added to its boots product line. In 1980s, the company expanded internationally and Sidney Swartz, one of the founder’s son took over the company. Under Sidney Swartz leadership the company began to evolve into a lifestyle brand. In the 1990s, more product lines were added to the company. In 1998, Jeffrey Swartz became the CEO of the company. In the 2000s, The Timberland Company acquired many other companies.
